A Day of Community, Conversation and Ubuntu in Vienna
On September 18th, 2026, City of Ubuntu Austria was once again part of the Josefstädter Straßenfest in Vienna. With perfect weather and plenty of sunshine, it was a wonderful day to meet people, exchange ideas and share the spirit of Ubuntu right in the heart of Josefstadt.
Our stand was located at Josefstädter Straße 34, right in the centre of the action. Throughout the day, people stopped by to have a look, ask questions, have a chat — and, of course, find out more about City of Ubuntu and our work between Austria and Cameroon.
Meeting Friends – and New Faces
One of the nicest things about a street festival is never knowing exactly who you are going to meet.
Friends and acquaintances of City of Ubuntu came by to say hello, but we were just as happy to welcome many people who had never heard of us before. Some stopped because they were curious about our name, others because they noticed our products from Cameroon, and many simply stayed for a good conversation.
These spontaneous encounters are an important part of what we do. Ubuntu is about connection — and sometimes all it takes is an open conversation to create a new connection.
Handmade Products from Cameroon
At our stand, visitors could also discover and purchase a selection of our handmade products from Cameroon, including T-shirts, document folders, tablecloths and other beautiful items.
While only some of the products found new homes that day, every conversation around them was an opportunity to tell people more about where they come from and about the people and projects behind them.
Looking Ahead to Ubuntu Day 2026
Our presence at the street festival was also a chance to invite people to our upcoming Ubuntu Day 2026 on October 1st.
This year’s Ubuntu Day takes us into the fascinating meeting point between architecture and Ubuntu. At Gleis 21 in Vienna, we will explore how sustainable architecture, local knowledge and transcultural collaboration can come together to create spaces for people to meet, learn and share.
City of Ubuntu co-founders and architects Philipp Broinger and Herwig Ferch will present their approach to an environmentally conscious, modular “Ubuntu building” and the ideas behind our upcoming building project in Cameroon. Marlene Wagner, an architectural researcher, will also share perspectives on the realities, challenges and opportunities of European-African collaboration.
The evening will then open into an interactive panel discussion and audience Q&A. So whether you work in architecture, are interested in sustainability, are involved in international cooperation, or simply want to explore what meaningful collaboration across cultures can look like, there will be space for your questions and ideas.
